ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICA:
a tour across the web

=> INTRODUCTION.
The recent growth in the number of World-Wide
Web sites can be described in one word - incredible! This is true with the Asian
Pacific American "Web" presence on the Internet as well. Internet Web addresses
now appear in everything from bulletin boards to magazines to TV.
Matthew Gray at MIT has been collecting
information on overall World-Wide Web growth. In June 1995, there were an estimated
23,500 sites. Only one year later, in June 1996, the number of sites on the Web grows
to 225,000! The number of sites continues to grow and grow.
This is both good news and bad news. The good news is that today there is much more
online material for Asian Pacific Americans. The bad news is that many sites are
often lost in the numbers, and difficult to find. Imagine comparing the Web to a
watching television with 225,000 channels to navigate. It can be a challenge. How
does one get started?
If you're still one of those people trying to figure out what the Web means for us,
especially for Asian Pacific Americans and community-based organizations, this tour
might help you.
